Buddy the German Shepherd. He was the first Dog in the United States to test positive of covid19.
In mid April, right before his seventh birthday, buddy began having difficulties with breathing, lost weight and became increasingly lethargic. After visits of different vets, heart medics and other medical interventions, Buddy was the first Dog to test positive of the coronavirus that causes covid19.
It's unclear whether Buddy died from complications of the coronavirus, which he mostly likely Caught from his owner, Robert Mahoney.
Medical records provided by the Mahoneys, Buddy owners and reviewed for National Geographic by two veterinarians who were no t part of his treatment, told publication that the dog probably had cancer.
It's unclear whether cancer made him more susceptible to contracting the virus, or if the virus made him I'll, or if it was just a case of coincidental timing.
By June 2, the US Department of Agriculture confirmed Buddy was the first Dog to test positive for coronavirus in the US.
